Principal's Message

About us
     Rev. Fr. Vincent Arokiadas

“Milestones don’t just speak of achievements but of our proximity to nobler goals…”

2013-14 has indeed being a momentous year for St.Joseph’s, as we proudly send our first batch of students under Autonomy, fully equipped with the right knowledge, attitude and skills to compete at the highest level and emerge as leaders in the face of  global dynamics and life’s complex challenges ahead of them.  St.Joseph’s as a premier institute for quality education is a proven brand which is undoubtedly reflected in the top rankings by reputed magazines. India Today (June 2014 Edition) has placed us 41st among India’s best colleges and 5th among the best Commerce Colleges in the city. The Times (Feb 2014 Edition) has accorded us 128th All India rank among top B-Schools in the country and we are ranked 3rd among best Emerging Science Colleges in the city by India Total (Feb 2014 Edition).

Not to rest on laurels, the college has always striven for quality enhancement and sustenance through embarking on a constant process of reinvention and expansion. To begin with, infrastructural development being crucial for offering a “Distinct Environment of Educational Excellence”, the new block has seen an extension of 22,000 sq.ft this year. The process of new beginnings undertaken this year, like the inauguration of Joseph’s Environmental Green Group [JGG] has been complemented with an equal effort invested in fine tuning the existing best practices. For instance Community Engagement Programs have received a streamlined focus with every month having a special day earmarked as the (Josephites Service Scheme) JSS Day. And the pre placement training programs too have been professionally tracked into distinct Campus Recruitment Training (CRT) modules, drawing upon the expertise of all Departments. Certificate courses and other value add-on courses have also been added and reviewed with a sharper focus on skill development and employability of the students; we must mention here that our collaboration with the Nation Skill Development Council has been a qualitative step in this direction.

All the Departments have enthusiastically explored possibilities beyond the curriculum and this is evident in the phenomenal rise in the number of guest lectures; we must add that 40 guest lectures conducted also include 3 lectures by International resource persons. On the academic front, the pride of place among achievements goes to the two highly successful National Seminars conducted by the Departments of Commerce and Management. The scene of Research and Development has improved by leaps and bounds with 104 paper presentations by faculty in National and International Seminars/Conferences, apart from 16 Book Publications. Faculty research apart, it is highly gratifying to note that our students have also begun their research pursuits by presenting papers in National Seminars. This being the first batch of undergraduates to be taking up projects and internships, care has been taken to initiate the process professionally by arranging for workshops and seminars on Project guide lines. Having completed 3 years of Autonomy, the first curricular revision has been successfully completed to upgrade the curriculum to embrace emerging trends in academics and industry. The PG courses too are going Autonomous this year and are ready with a job oriented syllabus that is globally and socially relevant to the changing needs of the students, prepared in collaboration with top Industry experts and academicians.

Talking of significant developments of the year, I am happy to share with you that we have successfully submitted the Self Study Report (SSR) and stand to welcome the UGC peer team to visit the college this academic year for the second cycle of NAAC reaccreditation.

On a note of gratitude I thank the Almighty and of course the management for its guidance and support. In all humility I acknowledge that these achievements are a result of a dynamic partnership of all our stake holders - Governing Body and Academic Council Members, our dedicated Teachers, Parents, and well wishers and I thank them for having walked that extra mile to make St. Joseph’s a Center for Excellence. The quest for excellence continues…

A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine.

I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.

When, while the lovely valley teems with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image.
