The Samagam meet was a successful event that celebrated the achievements of past students while fostering connections among alumni. A diverse range of speeches and discussions highlighted the commitment of both alumni and the department to the growth and development of St. Joseph's College. During the event, alumni expressed their willingness to sponsor scholarships for B.Sc. students in need of financial assistance and to support student placements by referring them to job opportunities. The event featured a presentation on Digilocker by Mr. S. Srikanth, highlighting its secure document management features. Mrs. C. Swathi provided a hands-on demonstration, guiding participants through the setup of Digilocker accounts, document management, and the creation of an ABC ID. She detailed the registration process, including password creation, Aadhaar linking, and document handling. This session effectively enhanced participants' digital skills and understanding of using Digilocker for secure storage, sharing, and verification of documents in a cloud-based environment, while also simplifying access to government services. The World Wide Web Day event featured two engaging activities: INTERNET ODYSSEY and WEBQZ. INTERNET ODYSSEY, a dynamic scavenger hunt, showcased a two-phase format where participants first answered IT-related questions in an elimination round, and then navigated QR codes placed around campus to solve puzzles and answer further questions. It effectively engaged participants with diverse questions, fostering discussions and increasing awareness of the World Wide Web's impact on daily life. | |
During a recent visit, students were introduced to various aspects of space research, including satellite technology, space missions, and the organization’s key achievements. Detailed discussions focused on the National Remote Sensing Centre's (NRSC) role in remote sensing, covering the types of satellites used, data collection methods, and their applications across different sectors. This visit offered participants a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge space research and remote sensing technologies, motivating them and equipping them with new knowledge to advance their careers in technology. In July 2024, the Department of Computer Science at our institution identified a group of first-year students whose fundamental computer knowledge fell below an acceptable benchmark. This was determined through a diagnostic test administered on July 15, 2024. The bridge course was meticulously designed to cover key areas essential for understanding basic computer concepts. The bridge course successfully enhanced students' understanding of basic computer concepts.The comparative analysis of the Diagnostic Test and Bridge Course Test demonstrates a clear improvement in student performance, validating the effectiveness of the bridge course. | |
The Computer Science Department conducted a diagnostic test for first-year undergraduate students across various streams, including B.Com (IT, Computers), B.Sc, and BBA (IT), from July 11th to July 15th during their respective class hours. This assessment aimed to evaluate the students' foundational computer knowledge, ensuring that they possess the necessary skills to succeed in their academic pursuits. The initiative reflects the department's commitment to understanding student proficiency and tailoring support to enhance their learning experience. | |
The orientation for B.Sc-I year students included a series of activities aimed at introducing college life and academic expectations. Highlights included addresses from Principal Rev. Fr. Anthony Sagayaraj and various department heads on college culture, curriculum, and evaluations. Students participated in ice-breaking sessions and discussions on important topics like anti-ragging and NSS, fostering a strong sense of community. Subsequent days focused on developing essential skills such as logical thinking, communication, and teamwork, alongside personal growth topics like emotional intelligence. The program structure and evaluation methods were clarified, with engaging talks from faculty and industry professionals, including insights on data analysis tools like Power BI and Tableau. The Department of Computer Science conducted an orientation session on academic projects on June 28th, 2024. During this session, students received guidance on selecting project domains and technologies, as well as their practical application in project implementation. They were informed about the project schedule and emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines and regularly updating project progress to coordinators at each phase. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students shared their project ideas, and detailed explanations were given on initiating each project component. | |
On June 24th, 2024, Mrs. Kiran Jyothi, Head of the Department of Computer Science, led an orientation for faculty on an upcoming Faculty Development Program (FDP), starting with a comprehensive overview of the BCS syllabus and examination format. Mr. K. Sundeep and Mr.Srikanth, Assistant Professor,Department of Computer Science, then explored Google Suite- Google docs,Google Calendar ,Google Slides,Google Sheets,its key features , emphasizing its advantages over Microsoft Office.Followed by social media skills like Bookmarking a website,Scheduling a Zoom or Google meet and Email Netiquettes. Each session was followed by practical hands-on sessions, providing faculty with immediate opportunities to apply what they learned. Overall, these sessions empowered faculty with a comprehensive toolkit to elevate their presentations and data management skills, fostering creativity and interactivity through an immersive exploration of Google Suite's robust capabilities. | |
On June 28th, 2024, The Faculty Development Program (FDP) focused on React JS technology was conducted by the Department of Computer Science at 3rd Floor Lab. The primary goal of this Knowledge Transfer Session was to introduce faculty members to React JS, a popular JavaScript library for building user interfaces, and to provide hands-on experience with the foundational tools and workflow involved in React JS development. The FDP on React JS was successful in achieving its goals of introducing faculty members to the technology and providing practical skills in React JS development. Continued support and further advanced sessions could be beneficial in deepening the participants’ expertise. |
